Proud to be in the Book of Life
25 February 2016
The name of Allchurches Trust has been inscribed in a historic book at Durham Cathedral.
In the Middle Ages, the names of benefactors to Durham monastery were recorded in a book known as the Liber Vitae or ‘Book of Life.’
The Chapter re-established the tradition in 2007 with a new Liber Vitae, and every year a set of new names is inscribed in the book to mark benefactors of the Cathedral.
Following Allchurches Trust’s ongoing support of Durham, the Cathedral contacted us in October 2015 to let us know that they wanted to include us in the Liber Vitae.
The Cathedral invited Sir Philip Mawer (pictured above holding the Liber Vitae) to come along and represent Allchurches Trust for the annual Founders and Benefactors service. The Reverend Canon Dr David Kennedy thanked a long list of benefactors, including Aldhun, first Bishop of Durham, as well as benefactors of the Cathedral, city and university.
