A new home for Cirencester Baptists
18 May 2016
A grant from Allchurches Trust helps outreach continue in a new area of the town.
Cirencester Baptist Church has met for over 350 years, and the congregation has swelled to over 400 members. The church is extremely involved in the community, and the current church building on historic Coxwell Street is too small for all the activity it hosts.
In 2015 a redundant building came on the market that was the ideal size and location for a new place of worship. Members of the congregation donated some £500,000 to buy the premises, and also raised money through the sale of the old church building.
The Baptists now plan to build a 500-seat and a 120-seat auditorium, as well as at least ten smaller multi-purpose rooms and kitchen facilities and approached Allchurches Trust for a grant to support their outreach and community work.
Due to the location of the new building, in a deprived part of Cirencester where 2,500 homes are being planned, as well as the inspiring commitment from the congregation itself, we were extremely happy to support this project with a grant.
